We are so excited to have found the most perfect location for our 2019 autumn retreat in October at the stunning Maison de la Vaure. La Maison and La Petite Maison are set amongst 4 acres of formal ground and woodland, including a beautiful yoga barn, games barn and heated swimming pool. La Maison dates back to the 16th Century and occupies a commanding position at the front of the estate, with views over the surrounding farmland.

The house has been newly decorated and furnished in 2017, offering a large drawing room, a dining room with an adjoining eat-in kitchen, plus a library. There are 4 bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom with roll top baths and separate showers. There are two further bedrooms that share the 5th bathroom. La Petite Maison has been lovingly converted into a large cottage, with more en-suite bedrooms.

The estate is in the heart of rural cognac country, surrounded by vineyards and fields full of sunflowers, maize and wheat. Near UNESCO heritage sites, with castles on multiple surrounding hilltops. The nearby villages, such as Aubeterre, are full of gorgeous old churches and buildings with incredibly friendly locals. Plus, it’s only an hour from beautiful Bordeaux, and the even more picturesque Saint Émilion.

So many beautiful views around these parts mean that walking is a wonderful pastime. And in France you’re not limited to public footpaths: all areas are permitted. There are a lot of beautiful cycle paths: the Estate is just off the Abbaye de Puyperoux cycle route, and there are several routes signposted.

The estate is 7 hours from Calais, 5 hours drive from Caen and St Malo ferry terminals & 1 hour from Bordeaux airport.
